Mixing and recording engineer, producer extraordinaire, Julius ”Juppu” Mauranen (born 1979) originally a guitar player who found his place on the other side of the glass very early on. Cutting his teeth in a demo studio in Helsinki, he moved to the UK in 1999 to study Sound Technology at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA), mostly locked inside the studio.

After migrating back to Finland in 2003, he quickly acquired a reputation as a highly skilled, flexible recording engineer and mixer, capable of working and understanding a wide range of styles and consistently delivering outstanding results. He joined the Studio Kekkonen team at the original shared space in late 2003.

Julius’ big commercial break came in 2006, when he was specifically requested to record and mix what became a series of three wildly successful, platinum and beyond-selling records known as ”The Lapland Trilogy” (Ivalo (2006), Inari (2007) and Kasari (2008)) by Vesa-Matti Loiri, possibly the most loved and successful singer / actor / multi-talented legend of all time in Finland.

Since then Julius has maintained his status as a highly in-demand producer, mixer and recording engineer, enjoying wide recognition and success in both mainstream and alternative music. He’s worked on records with such seminal artists as Olavi Uusivirta, Emma Salokoski, Matti Johannes Koivu, Katri Helena, Anssi Kela, Pelle Miljoona, Topi Saha, Oranssi Pazuzu, Delay Trees, Vuk, Kiki Pau, Soma, Murmansk, Ultramariini and much more. He also works as a lecturer of Music Technology and Production at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.

A strong believer in the sound of great and funky analog gear, Julius has surrounded himself with an impressive arsenal of great and unusual analog compressors, limiters, reverbs and echos and other gear in Control Room 2. Julius likes working in a analog/digital hybrid method and has developed it to give the flexibility of total recall combined with the meaty sound of hardware. He can work on any given genre of music, as long as it’s made with real passion.
